LA GRAN PLAZA DE FORT WORTH® MALL TO SHOWCASE DIA DE LOS MUERTOS ALTAR EXHIBIT STARTING OCTOBER 7TH AND HOST SPECIAL EVENT ON OCTOBER 27TH TO COMMEMORATE HOLIDAY

September 30, 2019 (Fort Worth, TX) — La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth® Mall will celebrate Día de los Muertos “Day of the Dead,” a traditional Mexican Holiday with a special exhibit that will be on display by the main stage from October 7, 2019 – November 2, 2019. La Gran Plaza will celebrate “Day of the Dead” with a cultural event featuring Grupo Danza Pakal reflecting the traditions and customs of Mexico on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at the Main Stage. The first 200 children in attendance will receive a free sugar skull to decorate starting at 2:00PM.

Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that emphasizes the remembrance of loved ones through storytelling about their ancestors, feasts to celebrate life and the traditional altar out of respect for the dearly departed. The Day of the Dead celebration includes a traditional feast with pan de Muertos (traditional bread of the season) and champurrado calientito (hot chocolate.) The Día de los Muertos exhibit will display photos commemorating Juan Gabriel, Frida Kahlo, Selena Quintanilla, Steve Jobs and many others. The skulls and Catrina’s on display were handmade by artist Mirna Del Valle from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico City. The altar was constructed by a local artisan and La Gran Plaza employee, Michael Paslay. The Catrina décor was handcrafted by artist Jorge Rodriguez Tejeda.
